Something big is coming!
We’ve always known Wauwatosa has huge things happening, but our new troll takes it to the next level! Thomas Dambo, a Danish artist who uses recycled materials to make masterpieces, is coming to our area in the spring to create another spectacular and one-of-a-kind troll, featured in Firefly Grove Park. These trolls are located throughout the world, each one with a special personality. There are only 155 trolls scattered across the world, with 40 located in the United States. We are proud to share that our troll is the first in Wisconsin! Read on to learn more about the artist, the troll, and how you can get involved!
Who is Thomas Dambo?
For the last 10 years, Thomas Dambo has been traveling around the world and building larger-than-life troll statues out of recycled materials to promote sustainability. He has artwork in over 20 countries across 5 continents. Hidden throughout the world in nature, these trolls are meant to help people realize how everyday bits, scraps and leftovers can be transformed into meaningful art pieces.
Interested in hearing more? Check out Thomas Dambo’s website or come see him for a public art talk once the troll is finished (more details to come).
Volunteer
The addition of a troll to our area is incredibly exciting and special; we need your help welcoming our new friend! Here are some ways you can get involved!
- Contribute toward their housing fund.
- Provide meals for the artists.
- Volunteer to help build the troll (this could include using power tools to assemble the troll, oiling wood, cleaning or being a spare set of hands).

Trolls like to...
- Be mindful of wildlife and plants by staying on designated paths!
- Give hugs! Trolls are friendly creatures that enjoy being hugged, but that’s all. Please be respectful of our troll and refrain from sitting, climbing or standing on any part of our troll.
- Keep their own belongings! When leaving the park, please make sure to take all of your items with you as you leave the park, including any personal belongings. This also means leaving any pre-existing items such as moss, twigs, mushrooms, and leaves as they are a vital part of our ecosystem, providing habitats and food for nearby animals and insects.
