Sometimes it’s nice to skip the gym and get back to fitness basics with these outdoor (and mostly free) ways to stay active in Wauwatosa.
In Our Parks
All of our parks and the Forest Exploration Center offer great walking paths where you can catch up with friends and enjoy the scenery, all while getting in your steps. But don't forget some of these park extras, if walking isn't quite your speed.
Sign Up for a Class
Get centered with an outdoor yoga class at Firefly Grove Park’s Rise & Restore series. Even winter doesn't stop us from gathering outside. Warm up with an outdoor winter yoga at Hart Park's Heat Haven.
Get on Track at Hart Park
Do some sprints or get in some laps on the soft, eight-lane running track at Hart Park. The track offers a great way to add variety to your running program.
Take a Swing
Bring your paddle or racket to Hart Park and play on their 12 lighted regulation tennis courts (four of which are striped for pickleball with convertible nets for use from April to October). There’s also sand volleyball nearby if you want to swing your arms instead of a racket.
Dive In
Perfect your stroke and get in a great workout in the lap portion of the pool at the Tosa Pool at Hoyt Park.
Get Pedaling
When it comes to biking in Wauwatosa, you can choose your own path. Try renting a Bublr Bike to explore what each of the five neighborhoods has to offer. Or get your heart pumping on the only pump track in Southeastern Wisconsin at Firefly Grove Park.
Drop In
Bring your skateboard, scooter, rollerblades, or bike to the Tosa Skate Park. People of all ages enjoy the park’s banks, bowls, boxes, and rails.
Bring Your Clubs
Wauwatosa is home to two golf courses. Aim for the green on the 18-hole course at Currie Park Golf Course, or perfect your short game at Hansen Park Golf Course.
Get Moving Together
Fitness is more fun with friends. Join a run club like Tosa Run Club, Colonel Hart’s Running Club or Tosa Café Run Club to socialize and energize your body and spirit at the same time. You can also check out Badgerland Striders Running Club for larger events and frequent meet ups. For some other outdoor group activities, The Ability Center (TAC) offers “open gym” at various Wauwatosa locations, this special program allows people of all abilities to participate in activities together during the summer months. Check their event calendar to see where they’ll be next.
Here’s to more time outside and more time moving your body. Get out there and explore Wauwatosa.
